Dave King is a music producer, documentary filmmaker, and founder of MODAL SOWND, an independent jazz record label dedicated to producing contemporary recordings and artist-driven releases. He serves as Producer of SIDEMAN, a music-centered documentary accompanied by an original jazz soundtrack recording featuring professional musicians and scheduled for commercial release.

 

Dave is also the founder of SOWAL Sound & Picture and SOWAL House, platforms that develop, produce, and present jazz-focused recording projects, live performances, and artist collaborations. His work includes coordinating recording sessions, contracting musicians, and overseeing production across film and music initiatives rooted in jazz and American roots traditions.

 

An Emmy-recognized producer for The Flight of Jackie Cochran, Dave develops unsung hero-driven film and television projects that document and elevate forgotten legends. His original dramatic series Jazzmen, centered on New York’s historic 52nd Street jazz era, was recently named an Official Selection of the Cinequest Screenwriting Competition.

 

Through SOWAL Jazz Fest and year-round programming, he commissions performances, produces recording opportunities for professional artists, and creates platforms that connect audiences to the living tradition of jazz while contributing to its ongoing recorded legacy.
